Green Screen

To film the green screen shots, we had to use three cameras to gain three different perspectives; one was a close up, one was a long shot and the other was a mid shot. We had to film 30 seconds of each different shot, in order to make sure we had a variation of angles to merge together. To change to different cameras, we had to press the buttons 1, 2, or 3 to switch to different angles.
Here are some images of the green screen room :

At the moment we are trying to decide what to use as the background for the green screen footage we recorded. We need something that reflects the theme and mood of the song and fits in with the video, which we have made to be dark and gloomy, but also kept an element of pop with the performance to keep the appeal to the target audience, which is teens.

For the footage we recorded of Beth waiting at a table, we originally were going to film a busy restaurant to contrast with her being alone and exaggerate it. However, as we were editing, we decided not to use this idea, and go for a more abstract look, to portray the shot as if Beth is thinking about what has happened in the past, where the boy she is s inging about has stood her up. We felt this linked with the lyrics "I guess i'm dreaming again".

So far, we have found these images as initial ideas:

For the shots we got of Beth lip syncing, we decided to use a spa rk le background with fireworks, to reflect the explosion of her anger and frustration. We are using these shots as the song progresses towards the end, as she is getting more and more frustrated throughout the song because the boy she is singing about doesn't want to be with her. We got the animation from detonationfilms.com, which had the sort of thing we were looking for.

Here are some examples from the website:

Locations So Far

For Interior Shots we have filmed inside Loreto college Chapel. We also used the College Green Screen room for some of our interior shots.

This is a photograph of the Chapel in which we filmed, we also used the area surrounding the chapel for some of our exterior shots.
We also filmed some exterior shots on the top level of an NCP car park in the centre of Manchester.

Editing update

So far we have put all of our recorded material and the song we are using onto an assembled timeline and we have established the order that we want our shots to be in. We have also ensured that our lip syncing shots are as in time with the music as they could possibly be. We have some shots to slot into the timeline that we recorded in the green screen room which we will be adding a background to in order to show someone eating alone in a busy restaurant.

We have sped up certain shots in the video to reflect the faster parts of the song, for example when it builds up to the chorus. We feel this gives more of an energetic and vibrant effect, which relates to our youthful audience. We have also used slow motion on one of the green screen shots of Beth dancing, for an instrumental part of the song, to contrast with the fast pace of the faster parts of the song and video. We are going to add shadows of herself to the shot for a dark effect.
We added some transitions to our music video, for example 'cross dissolve' to break up the shots and help the video flow and run smoothly, rather than jumping from one shot to another.

Filming

Today Gabbi, Beth and I filmed some exterior shots, on the top floor of a car park in town. We wanted the setting to be different, and include some tall buildings in the background to show the contrast between the busy city and Beth being alone, as that is what the lyrics suggest. The weather was dark and gloomy, which is the effect we wanted to reflect the mood of the song.

While filming we came up with some more ideas that weren't on the anomatic story board. For example, we used a range of hand held shots. One of Beth standing alone in the middle of the car park where the camera circles her and moves slowly away. We thought this would be a good ending to the video as it looks quite dramatic, as if she is being abandoned. Another hand held shot we filmed was of Beth running away, so it looks as if she is being chased.

We filmed some close up, mid-shot, and long shot footage of Beth lip syncing, to add to the performance element of the video. We used those three shots to get a variation, so that when we come to edit the music video we have a choice and range of different shots to use.

Poster and CD Cover Ideas

`We have been researching posters and CD covers from the genre of our song with the same target audience. We have been looking at different bands and how they present themselves by using images of the band or images that relate to the song. We have found some examples that could inspire us with ideas for our own poster and CD cover.

Here are some of the Posters and Covers we have researched:

These CD covers are from the band that we are using for our music video track. The first one does not include the band themselves, but an image of a dark forest. As the title of the track is 'decode' it could be to represent mystery and information that needs to be 'decoded'. Also, this single is included in the film Twilight, so it also has representations of the film as well as the music.

The second cover does include an image of the band, they are not smiling due to the fact that the song is called 'misery business'. This cover represents the song in a more obvious way in compartison to the first cover.

This CD cover is from the band All Time Low who are of a similar genre to Paramore, the band we used in our video. This cover is colourful and artistic, which mirrors the up beat songs that are on the CD. The use of the sillouettes instead of people contrast with the vibrant background and really make the cover stand out. As our chosen song is not necasserily happy this style of CD cover would not suit it.

This is an album cover for Kings of Leon, Only By The Night. The image is interesting as it includes parts of the bands faces merged together with an eagle. It could be showing how there are two sides to the band or the songs on the album, as the title 'Only By The Night' suggests things change at night. The effect on the image also represents this idea, as it looks like a night vision camera.
