Filming Progress

So far we have managed to capture some shots of Beth in the exterior locations we had chosen, which is on a bench in a leafy area. We feel this location adds to the gloominess of the song, as it shows the autumn/winter weather. It also reflects the lyrics of the song, for example she is singing about how the boy she likes doesn't feel the same, "that never happens I guess i'm dreaming again".

We have also captured some footage of her in the college chapel, which is not something we had originally planned, but thought was a good setting to add some interesting elements to the video, as it could represent the feeling of spies and truth that is mentioned in the song.

An Annotated version of The lyrics to crushcrushcrush

Here we have read through and made notes on what we think they lyrics of this song are trying to say, this is going to help us to plan and create ideas for our video. We have also included some of our ideas for our music video.

The orange writing is our own ideas for our video and the blue writing are what we think the lyrics are suggesting.

Our music video is going to be a narrative as well as a performance, we will be using a band for the performance and most of our shots will be close ups of the band and the instruments that they are using. We will also have shots of our main character singing/lip-syncing.

I got a lot to say to you
Yeah, I got a lot to say
I noticed your eyes are always glued to me
Keeping them here
And it makes no sense at all

Where it says "your eyes are always glued to me" we will be using a pull focus shot to show that he is looking at her.

This verse suggests that he likes her, he's obviously always looking at her but is doing nothing about it which doesn't seem to make any sense to her.

They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies, your little spies
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies, your little spies

When she sings "they taped over your mouth" we will include a shot of someone with tape over their mouth which shows they are being kept quiet. After this we will show someone scrubbing out love hearts on a piece of paper and then a close up of eyes when it says " Scribbled out the truth with their lies, your little spies."

It seems like in this bit she is trying to say that his friends don't want him to be with her so they are preventing him from talking to her or even being around her. The phrase 'they taped over your mouth' is suggesting that they are metaphorically gagging him to stop him speaking to her.

Crush
Crush
Crush
Crush, crush
(Two, three, four!)

She's simply talking about the fact that they both have a crush on each other here.

Nothing compares to a quiet evening alone
Just the one, two of us who's counting on
That never happens
I guess I'm dreaming again
Let's be more than this

In this part of the song we will show someone eating a candlelit dinner alone and then a clip of them blowing the candle out.

She is saying that she wants to be alone with him, but he makes no effort to make this happen, nor does he even say that he wants this too. She's saying she could be dreaming that he's going to do this one day but he's making no attempt to do so at the minute.

If you wanna play it like a game
Well, come on, come on, let's play
Cause I'd rather waste my life pretending
Than have to forget you for one whole minute

Here we may show somebody rolling some dice to show them being played like a game.

Here she is suggesting that he's just playing games with her, he's messing with her mind and he flirts with her but doesn't try to take it further. She doesn't like this but is happy to put up with it rather than have nothing at all.

They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies, your little spies
They taped over your mouth
Scribbled out the truth with their lies, your little spies

Crush
Crush
Crush
Crush Crush
(two, three, four)

Nothing compares to a quiet evening alone
Just the one, two of us who's counting on
That never happens
I guess I'm dreaming again
Let's be more than this

Here we will see a shot of our main character looking into a mirror, with perfect hair and make up.

Rock and roll, baby
Don't you know that we're all alone now?
I need something to sing about
Rock and roll, hey
Don't you know, baby, we're all alone now?
I need something to sing about
Rock and roll, hey
Don't you know, baby, we're all alone now?
Give me something to sing about

This is where we are going to include most of the performance with shots of the band and our main character singing.

She's finally got him alone in order to speak to him, his friends can't stop him and they can't influence his decision, she wants them to be together and she thinks he does too. She thinks if they got together then she would have something real to sing about.

Our video will include shots of Beth (our main character) destroying everything around her, blowing out the candle, slamming doors, looking into the mirror with now messy make up and then going on to smash it.

Treatment

Our Group:

The Music Video:
Paramore- Crush crush crush.
The length of the video is 3:10

Audience:
As the bands' followers are teenagers aged 13-20 and mostly female we have decided that teenagers will be our target audience. The genre, Electro punk mainly focuses on teenagers as their target market as it is over run by their following.

Resume:
The song can be interpreted differently which is why we chose it as we could put our own spin on it.
Although, it is believed that the narrative of the song is based upon a girl and a guy having a crush on each other. (The chorus features the word 'Crush' 5 times. and it is the name of the song.) Although the girl wants to just be alone with him "Nothing compares to a quiet evening alone, Just the one, two of us who's counting on" it wont happen so she'll just keep wishing. We believe the overall perception of the song is the idea that there is always some kind of complication in a relationship, which the target audience can relate to.

Suggested Elements:
Performance:
We intend to include clips of Beth lip syncing to the song. We decided to do this because it's common to include clips of the band/lead singer to fit in with the desired genre. It also attracts more people to watch the video.

Costumes:
The main character in this is Beth. Her costume is going to consist of dark colours, blacks/ reds in some shots, and then in other shots she is wearing slightly brighter clothes, but as she is dancing in the cold and riany weather she has a big winter coat on with a large hood. The hood represents how she is feeling, the fact that she doesn't want to have to face anything and the hood hides her away. Towards the end the hood comes off to show she is stronger now and doesn't care anymore. This is to fit in with the genre and style of the band.
By doing this, we are sticking to the generic expectations of the genre.
Props:
The props we used in our video were: A candle, a table and two chairs, a table cloth, plates, culery and an umbrella.

Recording Days:
We plan to film across 3-4 weeks. And use 3 weeks for post- production using time in and out of college. We will definitely be recording on tuesday afternoons and thursday mornings, as well as any free periods that we have throughout the rest of the week.
